The Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing's (VDTM) international program keeps Vermont at the center of the global stage. Aggressive marketing targets the international travel trade in the following key markets:
- Canada
- Germany
- Italy
- Japan
- United Kingdom
In addition, VDTM sustains supporting marketing efforts through membership in VISIT USA in the Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands & Luxembourg) and the Nordic Countries.
VDTM works with key tour operators, wholesalers, travel agencies and media to establish new travel itineraries for groups and FIT's (Foreign Independent Travelers), while at the same time helping Vermont businesses market themselves overseas.
In Western European markets, Vermont works closely with Discover New England (DNE) www.discovernewengland.org to reach its key markets in the United Kingdom and Germany. VDTM also works closely with the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism to reach Italy and Asian countries with joint promotions and marketing opportunities.
Vermont has a tourism office in the UK and works with a consultant for Japan and Asia to market Vermont's travel-related products and services to their respective countries.
Overseas Activities
Overseas marketing efforts are showing success on a number of fronts. The Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing (VDTM) regularly organizes and hosts familiarization ("FAM") tours for international media and trade, with participants from the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Japan and Italy. VDTM also attends key trade shows to promote the state to overseas tour operators. Currently, trade shows include:

- Active America summit
- Discover New England Annual Summit USA
- TIA Pow Wow
These trade shows result in numerous leads for Vermont, which are passed on to Regional Marketing Programs and tourism marketing partners.
