Economic Recovery and the Implications for Vermont Tourism
The Dashboard Report for the fourth quarter of 2009, prepared by Economic & Policy Resources of Williston, Vt., provides an analysis of the recession’s impact nationally on the recreation and tourism industry – and the impact on employment and state revenue in Vermont . Articles include updates on consumer confidence, the Travel Price Index, exchange rates and enplanements at Burlington International Airport (BTV).

FY 2009 Update: Taxable Receipts Analysis

Following a generally strong  FY 2008, which saw taxable rooms receipts up 9.6 percent over FY 2007, FY 2009 bore the brunt of the global financial downturn that began in mid-September 2008.  The Vermont Brand held up for the foliage season despite the economic anxiety; October 2008 saw a decline in commercial room rentals of a miniscule .02 percent. Travel Intentions Stable
The TNS February National Survey on Leisure Travel of U.S households that traveled in the past twelve months indicates that overall, leisure travel expectations are stable as consumer confidence begins to rise. But a few segment differences did appear.

2007 Tourism Economic Impact Study
An updated benchmark study on the economic impact of visitor expenditures on the Vermont economy for 2007 is now available. The in-depth study looks at everything from who our visitors are, to their average length of stay, their spending habits, overnight lodging data, tourism industry employment and state tax revenues. It is available as a PDF document.

A report on the most comprehensive, in-depth survey of Vermont visitors in many years entitled The Vermont Online Inquiry Visitor Profile report is now available for review both as a PDF file (970K) or as a Powerpoint Presentation (2MB).

The report, compiled by by Economic & Policy Resources, Inc. (EPR), presents the demographics, spending and travel patterns of a select group of Vermont's domestic visitors, specifically those who have requested a planning packet or have subscribed to our online newsletter. It is based on a survey of 1,300 people who visited Vermont during 2006.

Vermont Tourism Workers are Happy
An updated summary from a study of the Vermont tourism workforce was recently released by Economic and Policy Resources, Inc. (EPR).

EPR undertook the study for the Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing in 2005 in an effort to better understand the nature of tourism jobs and workers’ attitudes about working in the industry. Read more about the results.

Tourism Data
The Vermont Tourism Data Center at UVM was established in 1996 as a clearinghouse for research on tourism in Vermont. Numerous studies on Vermont tourism can be found on their site.
Rooms & Meals Statistics
The Vermont Tax Department site has statewide, county and town taxable receipts data reported monthly, quarterly and by both calendar and fiscal years.
Travel Indicators
The Vermont Department of Employment & Training site has monthly indicators posted since 2000 (in pdf format).
